Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Muhurta ("we", "our", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and services. Muhurta is operated by House of Banarasi.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to compute your readings:

Birth chart data: Name, date of birth, time of birth, place of birth — required to compute your kundali. For free readings, this is computed entirely in your browser and never transmitted to our servers.
Account data: If you subscribe, we store your email, encrypted birth chart, and subscription status in Firebase (encrypted at rest).
Payment data: Processed by Razorpay. We never see or store your full card or UPI details.
Usage data: Anonymous event logs (page views, reading requests) to improve the service.

2. How we use your information

To compute and deliver your personalized readings.
To process payments via Razorpay.
To send you the readings you have subscribed to (daily push, queries, etc.).
To respond to support requests.
To improve the product through aggregated analytics.

3. What we never do

We never sell your data to third parties.
We never share your birth chart or readings with anyone outside your account.
We never use your data to train AI models that could leak your information to other users.
We never display advertising based on your astrological data.

4. Third-party services

We use the following processors:

Firebase (Google): Authentication, encrypted database storage. Privacy policy.
Razorpay: Payment processing. Privacy policy.
Anthropic Claude: Generates the natural-language portion of your reading. Birth data is sent to Anthropic's API in de-identified form (chart positions only, never your name or email). Privacy policy.
Brevo: Transactional email delivery. Privacy policy.

5. Data deletion

You can request full deletion of your account and data at any time by emailing privacy@muhurta.app. We delete within 48 hours and confirm by email.

6. Children

Muhurta is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have such data, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

7. Security

All data in transit is protected by TLS. Stored birth chart data is encrypted at rest in Firebase. We follow OWASP best practices and regularly audit our codebase. No system is perfectly secure — if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to security@muhurta.app.

8. Your rights

Under the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDPA) you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Withdraw consent at any time
Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India
