Indian astrology is sidereal — measured against fixed stars, not the moving equinox. We use Lahiri (Citrapakṣa), the Government of India standard. Current offset: ~24°11'.

Is this real Vedic astrology, or a toy?
Real Vedic. We use Swiss Ephemeris with Lahiri sidereal ayanāṃśa — the reference standard used by practicing Indian astrologers. Our computation includes Vimshottari daśā (5 levels), all 16 vargas, Jaimini karakas, Pañca Mahāpuruṣa yoga detection, Chandra Bala and Tāra Bala. See the Methodology section above for specifics.
How is this different from AstroTalk or AstroSage?
AstroTalk connects you with 13,000 human astrologers at ₹10–200/minute. Great for emotional consultation, expensive at scale.
AstroSage shows a generic city panchang — same for everyone in Delhi.

What if I don't know my exact time of birth?
Most Jyotish techniques rely on the ascendant (lagna), which changes every ~2 hours. If you're uncertain, use your best estimate — we flag this and fall back to Moon-based (Chandra Lagna) readings, which only need date.
On Unlimited, we offer a Prashna (birth-time rectification) workflow that refines your time over the first 30 days based on real-life events.
What is the 90% refund promise, exactly?
For the first 500 launch members: if your first reading doesn't resonate — reply to the welcome email with the single word "refund" within 24 hours of subscribing. We refund 90% instantly. The 10% covers Razorpay's non-refundable payment fee.
This applies to launch week only. After that we move to the standard 7-day refund window.
Do I need to believe in astrology for this to work?
No. You need to be willing to try one reading. Most users arrive skeptical, get a reading that references something specific actually happening in their life, and decide from there. If you've never found astrology useful, this probably won't change your mind. If you have — and most Indians have at least once — Muhurta will be the first tool that respects both your skepticism and the tradition.
How private is my birth data?
The free reading is computed entirely in your browser — your birth details never leave your device.
If you create an account, your chart is stored encrypted at rest in Firebase. We never sell data. We never share with third parties. Email privacy@muhurta.app for full deletion at any time (48-hour SLA).
Can I ask specific questions like "should I sign this contract Friday?"
